'Run, Al, Run' concert called off

Iowans who support former Vice President Al Gore have been forced to cancel a concert in his honor.

The $20 per ticket "Run, Al, Run" event, which I wrote about last month and was scheduled for Sunday in Des Moines, was called off because organizers feared they wouldn't sell enough tickets.

Peter Ryder of Cedar Rapids told me there are two reasons the rally and concert won't go on as planned, despite folk singer Paul Kaplan writing an original song in Gore's honor.

The idea was to "send a message to Al Gore there is a tremendous surge of feeling about you running, but after he won the Nobel Peace Prize, he really got that message pretty loud and clear," Ryder said.

Given the importance of Iowa for the declared Democratic candidates, "we felt it would be difficult to sell the number of tickets to make the whole thing financially viable," Ryder added.

And how about those draft efforts? As I've written lately, the national Draft Gore group is running TV ads (which are also on TV here in D.C.).

Meanwhile, the California Draft Gore group is "halfway" to its goal of getting the 26,500 signatures they need to put Gore on the state's Feb. 5 Democratic primary ballot.

"We are pretty much on track in the urban districts and behind in the rural districts. Our plan is to bring in help to the rural districts. We continue to be optimistic about getting him on the ballot," Roy Gayhart of San Diego tells me.

The group may send petitioners to the Global Warming and America's Energy Future presidential environmental forum next weekend in Los Angeles.

And since no one will get to hear it Sunday, here's Kaplan performing the Gore tune, which includes this line: "How can you lose when you've already won?"

As for Ryder, he still plans to attend his caucus on behalf of Gore, and is urging others in Iowa do to the same on Jan. 3. If Gore does not reach the 15 percent threshold in the caucus, Ryder hasn't decided a second choice, though he's ruled one candidate out: "Not Hillary. I am leaning toward Edwards but that can change."

As a PhD scientist and professor, I have seen the damage that Al Gore has done to the scientific discourse with his fear-mongering and alarmist falsehoods. The good news is that peope are starting to see him for what he is.
--Scott Funkhouser

Too funny.

Gore didn't win the first time; it's sad that liberals continue to embarrass themselves by remaining ignorant of the Constitution and its formula for election of a president in a republic.

Nevertheless, I love news like this. :)

I find it amazing anyone would support Al Gore. His whole global warming baloney is one big snake oil salesman routine. I guess the public will buy anything.

TIME WILL NOT ALLOWS FOR ME TO BE EXPANSIVE . HOWEVER AL THE LUNATIC GORE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES JUST LIKE THE CRAZY HOWARD DEAN . WITH THE TERROR NETWORK MOVEON .ORG PROPOGANDAS AND FRAUDULENT PROMOTIONS . MORE TO COME TREVOR MERCHANT BRONX NEW YORK WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 07.2007

Al would definately get the middle-aged teenager, folk-singer, you can't make me grow up vote.

Al Gore and anyone who follows him now know that most people do not care for Al Gore. This is great news. It cost over $10,000 a month to heat Al Gore's mansion. He is really concerned about using less resources,....not. What a joke he is.

The number of times AL Gore mentioned AL Qaeda during the 2000 Presidential campaign?? ZERO

The Dems continue to elect the weakest links in their party to run for president and 2008 is no exception.

WHAT A JOKE!!!!!
In this song, every time I heard "before the damage was done" there was a photo of something tragic that happened in America. For example, World Trade Centers, or Hurricane Katrina, which ony goes to show that the few people suporting Al Gore for president (and I say FEW PEOPLE because they could not even sell enough tickets for one event) are the far left LOONYS that think 9/11, and Katrina were a inside job. The same people who think Al Gore really won the election, and are still living in the past. So, I guess that just says it all.

Hilarious!! Thanks, Scott, for your comments that show it's not just radical right wingers who think Al Gore has gone too far with his so-called "crisis" It truly gives all of true science a bad name. If he stayed out of it and voices of reason prevailed, we could probably make some headway in the environmental arena regardless of whether people accept the AGW theories or not. Fool, he is, and it's nice to hear that some are wise enough not to show up and support someone like Gore.

That's right, guys. Keep up that American-on-American hatred. Civil War 2, here we come. Christ, what a miserable country.

Every newspaper in the world had people in Florida examining the disputed ballots after the 2000 election was finalized. And what was their conclusion, which you hardly heard about? Gore didn't win. It's hard to take people seriously when they hear the truth, ignore the truth, and continue to espouse a non-truth. Obama's on to something when he talks about the Baby Boomers being the bane of the Democratic party.

Remember, folks, P.T. Barnum said "A sucker is born every minute".

Giving Al Gore the Presidency would be like giving a guns to Monkeys -BORAT

Al Gore along with his global warming campaign is nothing but a sham. He is irrevelant to American politics. They way he's blown up we may see him flying along in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Wow. That songs sucks almost as much as most of Gore's ideas.

So, they can't sell enough tickets in just one state, but somehow he'll win the presidency if he's drafted onto the ballot? That's liberal 'logic' for ya!

And then, the former VP flew home in his Gulfstream...

I really do hope that Al Gore decides to run. The fact that all of his global warming errors will finally be exposed will maybe put this whole "chicken little" approach to a natural phenomenon of warming and cooling cycles on earth to rest. Also, will make for some interesting debates. Maybe he will use his Southern preacher voice again.

I wouldn't pay even a nickle from a child's toy cash register for a ticket to his stupid concert.

DON'T FORGET TO THANK AL GORE FOR AMERICANS PAYING 85% ON YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY TAX. HE BROKE THE TIE IN CONGRESS TO PASS THIS TAX!! WE NEED HIM BACK LIKE WE NEED ANOTHER HOLE IN THE HEAD.

Sheesh...How embarassing. Yes, Al. Run as far as you can from political office. No one wants you there but goofy, folksy people.

As A GREAT MODERATE I think that Al Gore should run for president against Billary as an independent with Nader as VP. Gore and Hillary's combined vote would still not likely hit 50%.

Gore couldn't even win his home state in 2000, for Pete's sake. These laughable tree-hugging, granola-eating, hybrid-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, folk music-singing libs are all a bunch of sad-sack, delusional losers. I kinda feel sorry for them. Nah, not really.

Al Gore is the best man for the job if all you rednecks would get a brain you would see that his wisdom is for the ages. His insight into the workings of our government and ability to bridge the gap makes him the most qualified for the job of President of the United States of America.

I know why Gore isn't running, he is still too busy inventing stuff like the Internet.

I am glad to see that people are coming around to see the sham that Al Gore is. As an engineer and a scientific person, I cannot stomach any of the lies in his award winning masterpiece of deception. I hope people will also wake up and see that right-wing citizens are not what they have been portrayed as for the last 40 years and if you actually listen to them you might realize the majority of their beliefs are based in rational thought and common sense.

Haha. He lost! He'd lose again! Get over it folks. Gore is a goof.

Al Gore has done more to divide this country than anyone. He disputed the outcome of the 2000 election for purely selfish reasons - calling all future elections into question because he had people convinced they were being "disenfranchised". HE LOST EVERY RECOUNT, yet his worshipers still can't get over it.

I wish he would just go away, already.

Al Gore is America's idiot. He's not to be taken seriously but we're polite when he's mentioned.

He gives the kooks of America something to do. Like that liberal clown singing that silly "Run, Al, run" song.

I LOVE AL FOR THE MONEY THAT IS SPENT ON PROMOTING HIS EGO! MORE ATTENTION TO HIS "JUNK" SCIENCE IS LESS TIME FOR HILLARY'S "JUNK" SOCIALISM. WE NEED TO EXPOSE BOTH!

The joke here is the people who comment who are blissfully unaware that they and people who think like them probably represent 1% of the American population. Drudge just brings the few together.

IT IS AMAZING HOW MANY SHEEP IN THIS COUNTRY STILL BELIEVE AL BORE IS WORTH ANYTHING, IF IT WASN'T FOR HIS FATHER, HE WOULD NOT HAVE AMOUNTED TO ANYTHING.
WELL, HE REALLY WAS ALWAYS A SECONED-RATE NON-ENTITY.

Hey Al,
Ever been to Montana lately, below zero in the winter, you know they found a lot of fossils there of dinasours. Wow, how did they live in Montana, must have been global warming back then. No SUVs, no coal fired plants, no humans. Gore is a moron. And so is everyone who buys into his dribble.

I think Michael Savage said it best. He coined the term "Al Gorleoni, the Godfather of Glo-BULL warming"!!!

I cannot stomach him, or Hillary. I am praying that a decent republican wins the election. Hopefully after that, Al and Hil will simply VANISH!

Mr. Gore has done so much damage to the scientific community, it could take a generation to fix.

This has to be almost as inconvenient to him as NASA IR sat data showing no global warming since 1998. (Would I be the first person to predict a carbon credit fire sale in the near future?)

I think there really were enough people for a concert and we just need a recount. Maybe we could start a legal defence fund so we could fight this in court. They obviously cancelled the concert prematurely before all the disenfranchised audience had time to vote..er..uh buy a ticket.

What's more threatening, a 1-degree rise in the natural sun-driven climate cycle over the past 100 years, or a 1 percent decline in the world's oil production over the past 100 weeks? Peak oil is serious and man-made. Global warming is neither. People are beginning to get it.

Is this a contest to be named America's Biggest Right-Wing Idiot?

Scott's comments prove nothing except that he spends more time spouting right wing drivel than actually studying science. Exhibit A:
http://www.campusreportonline.net/main/articles.php?id=801

Hey Scott, if you claim to be an expert on global warming, you better take your head out of Bush's ass and actually study the environment!

Oh, and Gore beat Bush by over 500,000 votes, and won Florida despite being significantly outspent.

Read on (assuming you are able to read):

I don't care what you all say. That song is awesome. Can I buy it on itunes? Ha.

As a fellow Tennessean, we discovered long ago what a " goober " Al Gore was. Simply drive by his Belle Meade mansion that consumes 20 times the energy the average American uses on a monthly basis, and see how much he really cares.

Or better yet, visit his Carthage home town and discover who is the largest polluter in the county.

Looks like we finally have a consensus on global warming. As the astute Joe pointed out, thank you, Drudge Report.

Hey Doug,

I feel your pain, man. I feel bad that you believe everything you read, and you fail to recognize people write articles and reports with bias and skew the facts...oh wait a tick...sounds like Al Gore!

Why does the left still buy into the man-made global warming scam when the data has shown that it is not possible? Why can they demonstrate blind, unquestioning faith in the word of a Marxist politician, while they mock faith in anything else? Why are they so religiously fervent in this belief despite the fact that all empirical evidence excludes even the possibility that man's contribution to the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere (0.12%) can affect climate change? Why do they believe politicians and pop stars know more about climate change than climatologists? Why do they think shuffling money around in the form of carbon offsets actually reduces pollution? Why?

Doug, I can't believe that you buy into this garbage. The problem with leftists like you is you dwell far too much on the past. Don't you think if the Dems really thought Al gore, who by the way looks like he inhaled a full tank of helium, really had a chance they would be beating his door down? They are doing the exact opposite knowing that his claims are toally unjustified.
Run, Al, Run, please, you need to lose three chins and 50 pounds.

Joe, the real 'joke here' is that people like you really believe that only about 1% of the commenters are 'blissfully unaware.' I suppose you saw this piece on Drudge; if you are correct, what does that say about you?

We are still, and probably always will, paying an internet tax thanks in part to Gore. We are paying for all the schools to be wired for the internet. Where the money has gone after all the schools were wired, is anyone's guess. Just another slush fund for Congress. Gore will never become president. Gore's supporters will never admit he lost in 2000. The fact that Gore will never debate his theories on Global warming is proof positive that he knows it's all a farce. Owning a carbon offset company proves that it's the money, folks. Follow the money.

Two observations: Al Gore has a strong resemblance to Mr. Ed, the talking horse. And Kaplan's song? I've heard better sounds coming out of public restrooms.

Oh please, oh please, oh please nominate him. You could run a turnip against him and win. Nothing would bring out the Republican vote more than having him leading the ticket.

Follow the political timeline of the people who have previously commented on this blog and 700 years ago the world was flat, 400 years ago they burned witches, 160 years ago they defended slavey, 100 years ago they denied women the right to vote, 50 years ago they blindly followed a senator name McCarthy, and 30 years ago they ignored the AIDS epedemic. It is sad that the free-thinking educated and informed must bail out these ignorant morons generation after generation...

It's not a matter of being a liberal or conservative... Democrat or Republican... It is doing what is responsible. Stop being such hacks.

So, Doug:

Before casting the sophomoric characterizations, perhaps you should be the one to read what you link. Your straw man argument against Scott (I seem to be able to read and see nothing in Scott's posting in which he claims to be an expert on global warming) doesn't help your position. And yes, as a PhD scientist in environmental chemistry myself (not a global warming expert, just a scientist), Mr. Gore has done a great deal of damage to the credibility of science in society with his tactics, according to the questions that I get from my chemistry students. They have come to think that if you make a movie and it wins awards, the science must be without question. Yet, science by its very nature questions the reported results. Mr. Gore's appeal to authority undercuts the very basis for scientific investigation.

Congratulations all of you on successfully working your way through the process of "clicking" on a "link" and "typing stuff" in the "form" to "submit" a "comment."

Next assignment: learn how to determine the difference between facts and head-up-your-ass propaganda. Step one: recognize that your brains are rotting away from watching FOX and from the stress of hiding your mutual masturbation sessions in airport bathrooms...

Al Gore is a decent guy who is demonized by a vocal minority of the right, who for some reason, choose to tow the line of big business and wealthy interests. Most good, common people understand that our planet needs to be taken care of, and they understand that we've done damage to the environment. We have at our disposal quantitative measures of the changes that human activities have wrought, namely by using indices such as rising ocean temperatures, rising average seasonal temperatures, increasing desertification, and a steadily rising green-house gas levels.

The evidence for climate change is clear as day, yet this very vocal minority is actively demonizing those who speak out. I respect Al Gore for bringing these important issues to front and center.

Having said this - I don't think he should run for president. I do think, however, he should be given a role in the next administration (I'm pushing for Paul, McCain, or Edwards, in that order) so he can implement solutions to the problem he has been so active in speaking about; we need solutions, not movies!! I hope Al gets his chance, and motivates America and the world to clean up our act!

Cheers!

Now who's gonna save the wooly Mammoth?

Beyond Gore's mental instability, his even more unstable supporters don't realize he's now unelectable. Forget about FL 2000, Gore would have won had he only been to take his own state (TN) or Bill's (AR). In other words, the people who knew him best wouldn't vote for him.

Now we all know him and most of us wish we didn't.

Don't be so hard on Gore. Don't you remember that in addition to alerting us about our impending doom, he also invented the internet?

Everyone should get out pen and paper to write down those who are and have endorsed Al Gore and his lunacy. My gosh, NBC is doing a closely related green week on their channels, requiring participation even on CNBC, the investment station. This craziness has taken hold on an international level.

I would hope those that have traditionally voted Democratic would speak up to smack the nuttiness that has been going on in their party for some time, to bring back toward the center a more reasonable party. One that can be taken seriously and considered.

If Doug wants us to read some articles, why not start with this one from The New York Times May 21, 1975 Check out this headline: "Scientists Ponder Why World's Climate is Changing; A Major Cooling Widely Considered to Be Inevitable." Yes, there were many articles and reports during the mid 70's warning us about global cooling. There were just as many "noted" scientists then too. They pointed out that the glacial ice was expanding and that sea levels would decline. They said anyone who did not believe in the coming Ice Age was a wacko. They said millions would die as cold weather made growing enough food impossible. The scientists who did not believe we would have another Ice Age were ridiculed and impugned. Celebrities rallied around the cause and the liberals whined and cried that Man was going to cause the destruction of the planet by freezing us all to death. Incedentaly, we on the right made the same consistent argument that we are making now. It is a natural cycle, you idiots!!! So, when did the Lefties say we would experience this cataclysmic FREEZE??? About 30 years or so. For those who can't count, 30 years from 1976 would be right about NOW!!!! Only, NOW we are told by the same liberal wack-jobs that we are going to destroy the planet by warming it... This is not new folks. In fact, this has happened four times since 1895. Here they are: 1924: They warned of an Ice Age coming. 1933: They feared global warming because of the longest warm spell in 100 years. 1976: The Ice Age is coming again. And of course our current Global Warming Crisis. Of course, Nasa reports there has been no warming since 1998, so get ready for another Ice Age coming very soon... I wonder if Al Gore will get a peace prize for warning us about that???

I am hoping the electorate funnels oodles of money to Gore so he can campaign...first Y2K, scare-tactic pseudo science that cost industries a trillion (remember planes falling out of the sky, cars with electronic ignition stopping on the freeway...), then the dot-com boom that cost us all untold billions and jobs (remember "brick and mortar will go the way of the dinosaur?)...now the pseudo science of global warming...the latest du jour of fear-based national mania that is even inculcated in our children at school in "earth science" class.

Let's elect Gore, then when we get a terrorist attack and the economy is in shambles we won't have a nation obsessed with another erroneous distraction...and my daughter will win in a landslide in 2012.

Hey, the verse melody is the same tune as "Momma's Little Babies Love Shortening Bread." Did he take credit for something he didn't do? Imagine that!

Liberals ignorant of the constitution? Seriously? The constitution has never, and hopefully will never, be under attack like it has been over the last 7 years with a certain mentally-challenged individual "in charge." And, for the record, Al Gore did win the first election, but the Republicans systematically destroyed voting records, committed gross fraud and conspired (illegally) to essentially throw votes for Gore in the trash. No worries though, you lot have had your turn, fortunately Americans are finally seeing the Republican Party for what they are: Self-righteous, hypocritical right-wing nut-jobs who don't have a semblance of a clue as to what America stands for.

When you look at serious science, instead of Al Gore's junk variety, the global warming panic becomes laughable. Truly worthy of honor and inculusion in the "Dumbest Government Study" awards.
http://strongasanoxandnearlyassmart.blogspot.com/2007/09/dumbest-government-study-award.html

Congratulations to you Jason. You have added so much to the discussion regarding facts vs. fiction in Gore's Inconvenient UNTruth.

I really can't understand how "my fellow Americans" can have so much hate towards one another. If we were ever in another world war we would surely not come out on top as we have so many on the left and so many on the right who just can't seem to get along and I think would rather perish than to cooperate and concentrate on the true enemy. (sound familiar?)

Jason and Oddsen
You two display clearly the lack of intelligence on the left. Just keep following them blindly and you'll continue to be a whiny and unhappy liberal all the days of your life. Man I'm glad I'm not one of you guys.

What up to reality people. There is no way Al Gore is going to run because he is making millions each month cashing in on the Global Warming hype he has created. The whole reason he made his movie was to create business for his carbon credit trading company and that is why he states this is the solution at the end of it.

What a SONG. Were people going to have to not only BUY a ticket, but even EAT prior to hearing that??? Seems like he may have taken a "Puff" from the "Magic Dragon" before writing it, eh?

Al gore is a gay waiter

To all the idiots who keep saying Al Bore won in 2000, well, truth be told, after five different recounts with Al Bore changing the counting rules five different times, he still lost. Just the facts Ma'am. GET OVER IT.

If we don't draft Mr. Al, we are all left to suffer the wrath of Manbearpig...............ALL HAIL MANBEARPIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Dan Rather recently launchd his lawsuit against CBS, Dan announced on the Larry King show that to this day no one has proved that his National Guard memos are not authentic. In the same vein, no one to this day has proved; 1. That Al Gore did invent the internet. 2. That Al and Tipper were the inspiration for the novel and movie, "Love Story". 3. That when Al told a union audience his mother used to hum their jingle to put him asleep wasn't true. It wasn't written until Al was 27 but maybe she was still humming to him. Etc. Etc

I have searched the internet and am looking for what tempature we are supposed to set the earth's thermostat at. I can't find the exact temperature. If anyone knows, please post it here. Is it 72 exactly? are there summer and winter exact temps? What is a correct reading for the polar regions vs. the sahara desert?

Maybe Al knows.

God is in control of the earth's temperature. If there was global warming the ice caps would be melting, (some are shrinking and there is some growing) and the Bible promises man will not be destroyed by a flood again..(but watch for the flaming hail stones). Bible believing Christians don't believe in that forked tounged, side talking, brain dead toad. The Bible is the truth and the truth shall set you free.

Jerry O

YES! PLEASE! PLEASE DO WHATEVER TO GET AL GORE TO RUN. HE WILL RUN AND LOSE.... AND WE MAY FINALLY BE RID OF HIM.

To JASON:
You are an America-hating liberal and don't deserve the freedoms that most Republicans are dying to protect. If you think FOX is dribble for conservatives, then CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, PBS, NPR, etc. are the liberal spewing networks we have had to listen to for years. As for science of global-warming I can debate all day on that. Al Gore has invested millions into these green companies that will be out of business if you don't buy into his spewage. He will not debate any scientist nor will James Hansen, his "scientist" of choice that has been ridiculed out of NASA. Temperature drives CO2 not the other way around. That much is proven without any doubt. Losers like you should spend a few days in the ANTARCTIC to see what is really happening to our ice. It's GROWING there. So anytime you want to see the truth behind global warming go to youtube and type in "great global warming swindle" to see the scientists behind the IPCC saying what the politicians have taken out of all of the reports. Think for once, you idiot!

I like the guy's suggestion to take your head out of Bush's ass and attend a science class. There's certainly enough conservative hot air in here to warm the planet considerably. If we could harness the energy and c02 put off by this bunch o' Hannity-strokers, we could probably power a town for a year.

Evan Campbell that's sad. The facts don't match your perverted fantasy (Al Gore lost according EVERY recount) so you make up a new conspiracy theory. Of course the republicans in Broward county snuck into the election records office in the dark of night and .... and .... toss found the Gore votes and .... and .... quietly put them in the trash. Not even the recycling bin.

Some times you just have to accept life and move on buddy.

This is hilarious. Liberals screaming, "Global warming's gonna kill us all! Al says so! Our United Nations god agrees!"
Then you shove millenia of heating/cooling cycles in their face and what do you get? Stone cold silence.

It doesn't matter, gore is laughing all the way to the bank. I dare ya to google "al gore"+"maurice strong" + china. And check this out too - http://www.generationim.com/about/team.html

Gore is the only reason the environment is in the news these days. All people, conservative and liberal, need a decent environment. Anyone who cares at all about their children or their future should also be concerned. The conservations used to be defenders of the environment. Too bad they lost their way and sold our country out to oil.

Able to guzzle more energy than dozens of normal men! Producing more hot air than a locomotive! Able to pile up carbon credits higher than a tall building in a single bound!!!

Look UP in the sky! It's Chicken Little! It's FlyingSnakeOilSalesman! It's the Sultan of [hanging] Chad[s]! It's the Ayatollah of Heat! No, it's CarbonMan in a private jet painted green with an internet that he invented himself!! And now following in the tradition of other great men such as Jimmy Carter and Yasir Arafat, he is the proud recipient of a Nobel Prize!!!

CarbonMan, strange visitor from an alternate reality who came to Earth with claims and scary predictions far beyond those of mortal men,
disguised as Fat Albert, and now joined by other members of the Royal GreenLeague such as BioFuelHummerMan and EcoCleaningWoman, they all fight a never ending battle for Science-fiction, hypocrisy and the Hollywood way!

And the High Goracle spoke all these words, saying: I am the Goracle, your Oracle.

ONE: You shall have no other Oracles before Me.

TWO: You shall not make for yourself any carbon images--any likeness of anything carbon that is in heaven above, or of anything carbon that is in the earth beneath, or anything carbon that is in the water under the earth.

THREE: You shall not ever take the name of the Goracle your Oracle in vain.

FOUR: Remember my birthday, and keep it carbon free unless you have credits that you bought from me.

FIVE: Honor me instead of your father and your mother especially if they don't believe in global warming.

SIX: You shall not ever malign me or else you be apostates.

SEVEN: You shall not commit adultery with my carbon credits, but I can with your carbon credits.

EIGHT: You shall not ever steal my carbon credits.

NINE: You shall not raise any challenges to the most holy doctrine of global warming.

TEN: You shall not covet any of my mansions; you shall not covet my private jets, nor my SUVs, nor my pizza, nor my Krispe Kreme dounuts, nor my Biggie Fries, nor my hot fudge sundaes.

My...My... My...

what a sad lot of unevolved humans you are.

You must be pitied for posting such moronic crap.

You are no longer relevant in the great scheme of things. No one listens to you anymore. We are moving on and leaving you all behind.

America For Gore

Why are all the comments on this article written in the same style, using the same voice? I smell a rat here.

Paul Kaplan responds. Folk music 101: for hundreds, probably thousands of years, people have taken the music in their culture and fashioned it, either a bit or a lot, to meet current needs. They have done this, with few exceptions, with no hope of remuneration, but just because they needed to do it as self expression. If you are lucky, your self-expression will strike a chord and your song will last. In my case, over a forty-year career a few of my songs have achieved this status (see Being Human, from the President's Council on Bioethics--yes this president! Or see the Digital Tradition database at the Mudcat Cafe).

In the case of "Run, Al, Run," the lasting power is open to question. It certainly has brought a lot of pleasure to Gore supporters, who have embraced it. It also seems that many of you are enjoying the song, in that you seem to take great pleasure in expressing yourselves angrily in print.

I wrote the song last March, at no one's behest. Anyone who says I wrote it for a particular occasion eight months later is not telling the truth. Yes, I borrowed the tune of the verse. This is what people do. The song that inspired the verse, though it sounds like "Shortning Bread," is actually "Zudio," an African-American singing game which begins "Walking down the alley and what do I see? I see a great big man from Tennessee."

As for the video, one of you picked up on the only part I am not pleased with, namely, the picture of the World Trade towers, which I agree is inappropriate. My daughter, who made the video in a big hurry (mostly from images I sent her, though not the twin towers), did not have the time to go back and edit that out. I apologize.

I hear that the polar ice caps on Mars are melting. They should send Al Gore up there to do an investigation into the matter. I bet that he'll find that the Martians have a very large "Carbon Footprint". Everyone knows that Martians are twice as big as humans. This is all a line of BS.

It doesn't take a PHD in Duh to figure out that Al Bore is going to do for global warming, what Democrats did for education over the past 40 years. I see a pattern... dumb down the public school system... more Democrats get elected. Scare the dull witted into thinking the world is on fire, government gets bigger and more intrusive. Butt monkey Charlie Rangle wants to penalize people if their house is more than 3,000 square feet. This is only the beginning folks.
Hippies Suck.

Al Gore has taken a complex science issue (global warming and climate change) and turned it into a political issue championing anti-science with his garbage statistics and fear mongering.

If this is an example of his thinking, I don't want him in the White House.

It does make one wonder about Al Gore!
Since so many in the "real" Scientific Community
have come out and posted that the Global Warming
is scientifically wrong.....why doesn't AL GORE
come out and apologize to us and to our children
whom he had brainwashed?
Since so many in the "real" Scientific Community
tell us that Global Warming is wrong why don't
they pull that stupid "wrong" movie and burn it?

AL GORE WE ARE WAITING FOR AN APOLOGY!
AL GORE YOU HAVE BRAINWASHED OUR KIDS BY INSISTING ON THEM SEEING THAT STUPID WRONG MOVIE!

Al is a thief. Want proof? What did he do with the Nobel Prize money? He donated it to Charity (and will get a nice tax break).

But, who was the beneficiary of this "donation"?

The Alliance for Climate Protection

And, just who is the Chairman of the Board? Al Gore. Hmmm. Great. Take the money but instead of paying the tax, you get a tax break. Then, pay the money to yourself. Not a bad idea -- if you want to steal money from the government.
